Private Lessons have one student attending with one instructor. There are a few ways to create and schedule private lessons in DSM, here is one option.

Before you can schedule the private lesson, you need to create the class. Everything is the same as a creating a “normal group class” except that you will Select the Type at the very top to “Private Class”. Otherwise, all steps and information are the same. Create sales items for the private lesson.

Scheduling a Private Lesson

Click on the “private lesson” tab from the menu on the left. A pop-up window will open. Fill out all details to schedule the lesson. After the lesson has been scheduled it will appear in the list.

Paying for a Private Lesson After Lesson has been Scheduled. From the shopping cart, select the corresponding lesson and purchase.

Go to the Private Lesson Tab. Click on the suitcase next to the lesson and select the proper sales item from the drop down to apply payment.

Afterwards you can mark the status of the lesson. Marking the lesson as complete removes one private lesson hour or credit from their available lessons from previous purchases. Early cancel indicates the lesson was cancelled with sufficient notice, and the lesson is not considered “used”. However, marking the lessen as Late Cancel or Did Not Show will result in the lesson being marked as “used” and removes one private lesson from their available private lessons. Marking the lesson as Complimentary means the lesson is neither counted as a “used” lesson or as a purchased lesson. It is simply a free lesson.

A word of caution… suppose a student buys a package of 5 lessons with the intention of continuing to take a private lesson every week indefinitely. Then, in order to reserve the time slot, more than 5 lessons are “Scheduled”, but no additional purchases are made. What could happen is the student could attend a private lesson beyond the 5 they purchased, and the admin or teacher could mark the lesson as Complete. The result would be a negative balance of private lessons. So it is a good practice check the student’s Purchases to make sure everything checks out.
