Pricing: fixed packages versus student-count tiers

DanceStudio-Pro currently lists three monthly packages: Essentials at $45, Premier at $75, and Elite at $150. All three include unlimited students and the core tools for scheduling, registration, tuition management, payments, point of sale, parent and class-manager apps, recital planning, costume management, and ticket sales.

The package decision is therefore less about enrollment size and more about advanced capabilities. Premier adds Studio Chat, individual user permissions, and Zapier integration. Elite adds lead capture and management, trial-to-enrollment automation, and two-way texting in the United States and Canada. DanceStudio-Pro notes that call and text charges may apply and that Zapier requires its own account.

Jackrabbit Class starts at $49 per month and uses student-count tiers. Its pricing page says every subscription option includes its core class-management features, a Product Coach, free data imports, unlimited support, and a 90-day money-back guarantee. Jackrabbit Plus starts at $93 per month and adds a branded mobile app; the company also lists a one-time $169 setup fee and app-store fees. Enterprise starts at $245 per month and adds an Enterprise Coach and Business Intelligence Dashboard without student-count pricing.

Ask Jackrabbit how it will calculate your studio's billable count. Its pricing page describes pricing based on total student count, while its help center explains that active and inactive student records can affect the monthly rate and that records in its Lead File are excluded. Ask DanceStudio-Pro which package-specific communication or automation fees apply. Comparing only the two lowest prices will not reveal your real annual cost.

Registration and class scheduling

DanceStudio-Pro lists class scheduling and online registration in every package. Its family tools connect registration to student records, tuition, statements, the studio calendar, and the Parent Portal app. This is a sensible shortlist option for studios that want dance-specific operations and do not want student growth to change the base subscription package.

Jackrabbit's online registration documentation is unusually detailed. New families can create an account, agree to policies, provide payment information, and enroll online. Studios can link directly to a class, offer trial enrollments, manage when enrollment is available, and track completed registrations. Existing customers can enroll through the Parent Portal.

Both systems clear the basic feature test. The useful comparison is what happens around exceptions. In each demo, create a weekly class with a capacity and wait list, a camp with a different payment rule, and a class that shares an instructor or room. Then register siblings, transfer one dancer, and test a trial enrollment. Count the steps and note where your staff needs help.

Tuition, payments, and family accounts

DanceStudio-Pro includes tuition management, integrated payment processing, point of sale, auto-pay, online store sales, statements, and reporting. Its current pricing page says Studio Pro Merchant Services is powered by Stripe and is available in the United States and most other countries. Payment availability and transaction pricing should still be confirmed for your location and volume.

Jackrabbit includes billing and payment workflows among its core class-management features. Its family records and Parent Portal connect enrollment, charges, online payments, credits, policies, and account activity. The system's depth can be useful for studios with detailed tuition structures, but more options also make a careful setup test important.

Run a complete sample month rather than stopping after one successful charge. Post tuition, apply your actual multi-class or sibling discount, record a partial payment, handle a failed payment, issue a credit, send a statement, and reconcile the result to a revenue report. A billing workflow should be understandable not only during implementation, but again on the busiest day of the next season.

Recital and costume management

DanceStudio-Pro lists recital planning, costume management, and ticket sales in all three packages. Its broader feature list includes a recital wizard, costume tracking, storage, online store purchases, and online ticket purchases. A studio that wants those dance-specific functions without moving to a higher package should include a complete recital example in the trial.

Jackrabbit's official costume module documentation covers vendor information and size charts, assigning costumes to classes and students, posting costume fees, manual and automatic sizing, purchase orders, and costume reports. That is a substantive workflow, not just a notes field.

For either product, test one dance with two costume pieces and different size requirements. Assign it to a class, post a deposit and remaining fee, record sizing, produce an order, and find the outstanding items. If ticket sales matter, include fees, seating or admission rules, refunds, and the family's phone experience in the evaluation.

Parent, teacher, and mobile experience

DanceStudio-Pro lists a Parent Portal app and Class Manager app in all packages. Families can register, purchase store items and recital tickets, view statements, and access files and the studio calendar. Teachers and administrators should test attendance, schedules, notes, and communication on the devices they actually use.

Jackrabbit's Parent Portal can support enrollment, payments, policy agreements, absences, makeups, class resources, account updates, and messages. Jackrabbit also has a Staff Portal for staff-facing work. A standard Jackrabbit subscription is different from Jackrabbit Plus, which packages a custom-branded app and app-management dashboard.

Invite one parent and one instructor into the evaluation. Owners tend to focus on configuration and reports; weekly users notice whether class search makes sense, balances are understandable, important messages are easy to find, and a routine task takes three taps or twelve.

Do not compare systems by the number of reports advertised. Ask each vendor to show the five results you need each month: outstanding balances, revenue by program, enrollment changes, attendance or retention signals, and a contact list for a precisely defined group. Then export one report and confirm whether the totals and labels make sense without explanation.

DanceStudio-Pro advertises a setup guide, video tutorials, support six days a week across time zones, and free student import from an Excel spreadsheet. Its free trial lasts 30 days and does not require a credit card.

Jackrabbit advertises unlimited support, a Product Coach, free data imports, on-demand training, and a large help center. Its 90-day money-back guarantee has published conditions, including setup and at least one billing cycle, so read the current terms rather than treating it as a no-questions-asked trial.

For either system, request a written migration outline. Confirm exactly which family, student, enrollment, balance, attendance, note, and payment data can move; who cleans it; what cannot move; and how corrections are handled before launch. A low subscription price does not compensate for a rushed or incomplete migration.

Which platform is likely to fit better?

These are starting points, not verdicts. A small studio may prefer Jackrabbit's workflow, while a large studio may prefer DanceStudio-Pro's unlimited-student pricing. Your own classes, tuition rules, staff permissions, and family experience should decide the result.
