Pricing: student-count tiers or one flat subscription

Jackrabbit Class starts at $49 per month. Its standard price is based on total student count, so the monthly fee can change as enrollment grows or records are archived. Jackrabbit says every standard subscription includes its core class-management features, a Product Coach, free data imports, unlimited support, and a 90-day money-back guarantee. Read the guarantee requirements rather than treating it as a free trial.

Jackrabbit Plus starts at $93 per month and combines Jackrabbit Class with a custom-branded mobile app and management dashboard. The pricing page also lists a one-time $169 setup fee and app-store fees for Plus. Enterprise starts at $245 per month and adds an Enterprise Coach and Business Intelligence Dashboard without student-count pricing.

Akada's current FAQ lists one price: $60 per month with every feature included. Akada presents that as a flat subscription without feature tiers. Its site promotes a free trial, but does not state all trial terms in the material reviewed for this comparison, so confirm the length, data limits, support, and cancellation process directly.

Do not stop at the starting price. Ask Jackrabbit to estimate your bill at today's student count and at your realistic growth target. Ask Akada which payment-processing, texting, migration, or optional-service costs sit outside the $60 subscription. Request the expected first-year total in writing from both companies.

Registration and class scheduling

Jackrabbit's online registration documentation shows new families creating an account, agreeing to policies, providing payment information, and enrolling in classes. Studios can link to individual classes, offer trial enrollments, control when enrollment is available, display live availability and wait lists, and track completed registrations. Existing families can enroll through the Parent Portal.

Akada describes online registration with administrative review and approvals. Its scheduling tools cover creating classes, enrolling students, and finding conflicts. That combination may appeal to an office that wants online convenience while retaining a deliberate review step.

Both products clear the basic registration test. The useful comparison begins with exceptions. In each demo, create a weekly class with an age range and capacity, a camp with a different payment rule, and two classes that share an instructor or room. Register siblings, offer a trial, use a wait list, transfer one student, and withdraw another. Count the steps and check what the family sees at each stage.

Tuition, recurring billing, and family accounts

Jackrabbit supports configurable tuition methods, fee schedules, prorating, multi-class or multi-student discounts, online payments, and family account activity. Its official pricing page identifies automated billing as a core capability, while the detailed help material shows that tuition behavior depends on the rules your studio configures. Automation is valuable, but it still needs a careful setup and a test month.

Akada lists tuition calculation, digital payment processing, and recurring billing. Its parent-facing tools are intended to keep registration, balances, and payment activity connected to the family's studio account.

Run the same billing scenario in both products: enroll two siblings, apply your real discount, post monthly tuition, add a costume deposit, process a partial payment, handle a failed recurring payment, issue a credit, and send a statement. Then compare the family's balance with the revenue and outstanding-account reports. The better system is the one your office can explain and reconcile without a private spreadsheet.

Does Jackrabbit automate enrollment and tuition billing?

Yes, Jackrabbit provides online enrollment and automated billing tools. New families can register and provide payment information online, and tuition rules can post charges according to your settings. Jackrabbit's integrated ePayment tools can process credit cards and bank drafts while updating account balances.

The important qualification is that “automated” does not mean configuration-free. Billing method, cycle, discounts, prorating, enrollment timing, payment authorization, and exception handling still need to match your policies. Ask the demo representative to build one of your actual tuition rules and show the complete result from enrollment through reconciliation.

Parent, teacher, and mobile access

Jackrabbit separates family and staff workflows. The Parent Portal can support enrollment, payments, policy agreements, absences, makeups, resources, account updates, and communication. Its mobile-friendly Staff Portal can show schedules, take attendance, record time, manage availability, update skills, and surface lesson resources without giving every instructor full administrative access.

A custom-branded mobile app is not part of the entry-level Jackrabbit Class price. It is packaged with Jackrabbit Plus, which starts at a higher student-count-based price and includes an app-management dashboard.

Akada's public feature overview advertises two mobile experiences: Akada Portal for families and Akada Studio for managing studio work on the go. It also highlights free texting and two-way messaging. In the demo, verify exactly which parent, teacher, and administrator tasks each app supports, which notifications are push, text, or email, and whether any communication charges or country limits apply.

Can Jackrabbit manage recitals?

Yes. Jackrabbit's current recital documentation covers creating recitals, arranging performances with drag-and-drop ordering, attaching music, finding conflicts, allowing costume-change gaps, creating programs and cue sheets, checking dancers in and out, and reporting recital participation. The recital module is enabled by default for Jackrabbit Dance.

Akada also advertises performance and recital tools, including scheduling, costume sizing, and costume billing. Its public overview is less detailed than Jackrabbit's help center, so the demo should go beyond a feature checkbox.

Build one real recital example in both products. Create two performances, put one dancer in both, allow a quick change, assign costume sizes and fees, and produce the information your backstage team and families need. If ticketing matters, ask whether it is native, integrated, or handled outside the platform and what additional fees apply.

Communication, reporting, and day-to-day depth

Akada highlights free texting, two-way messaging, staff time tracking, and more than 200 reports for finances, enrollment, attendance, accounts, and students. That is a broad dance-specific package at its published flat price. The number of reports is less important than whether the five reports you rely on are understandable and export cleanly.

Jackrabbit combines communication, Parent and Staff Portals, staff scheduling and time tools, and reporting within the core system. Its Enterprise package adds a Business Intelligence Dashboard. Jackrabbit also maintains a large public help center, which is useful when your team wants to inspect a workflow before contacting support.

Ask each vendor to show outstanding balances, revenue by program, enrollment changes, attendance or retention signals, and a contact list for a precisely defined group. Export one result. If the labels or totals require an explanation during a calm demo, they may be harder to trust during recital week.

Which platform is likely to fit better?

These are starting points, not verdicts. Student-count pricing does not make Jackrabbit unsuitable for a large studio, and flat pricing does not guarantee Akada will be simpler for every staff member. Test your own data, permissions, exceptions, and busiest workflows.
