Communications and Shared Content
Use messages, videos, meetings, and files
#Before you begin
- Sign in to the correct studio and family account.
- Your studio controls which features appear, their menu order, and some labels. For example, Videos can be renamed Class Videos, and Video Meeting can have a studio-specific title.
- Videos and meetings can depend on a family member's classes, schedules, categories, status, and availability dates. Two people in the same studio can therefore see different content.
- Files requires a working external Drive integration and a folder connected to your account.
- Use a current browser with JavaScript enabled. Video meetings also require the browser to load the studio's meeting service.
| Feature | What must be available | What clients can do |
|---|---|---|
| Messages | Studio messages enabled and a signed-in account | Read messages sent by the studio and see unread status. There is no compose or reply action. |
| Videos or a custom label | Studio video section enabled and videos visible to the account | Filter and watch assigned videos. |
| Video Meeting or a custom label | Studio meeting service enabled and an eligible meeting | Join an embedded Jitsi meeting. |
| Files | Studio Files feature, complete Drive connection, and an account folder | View or download shared files. There is no client upload action. |
#Read a studio message
- Select Messages.
- Review the unread count and the message list.
- Select Read, the message subject, or its row to open the message.
- Read the subject, date, and message body in the detail window.
- Select Close when finished.
Opening an unread message marks it as read and reduces the unread count. The page combines supported current and legacy message-history records for the signed-in account.
Important: Messages is a read-only inbox. To answer, use the contact method the studio gives in the message or its published contact information. The Online Client does not provide Reply or Compose here.
#Watch an assigned video
- Select Videos, Class Videos, or the studio's custom video label.
- If a category selector appears, choose a category to narrow the list.
- Find the video by its title, date, description, or live label.
- Use the embedded player controls to watch it.
Only videos currently available to the account are listed. The studio can limit a video by dates, family-member category, class, schedule, attendance-related status, or instructor access.
The menu's new-video indicator uses information stored in the current browser. It can differ on another device or after browser data is cleared, even though access to the videos is unchanged.
Warning: Videos may contain studio-owned or licensed material. Do not record, redistribute, or share a protected video link unless the studio has authorized it.
#Join a video meeting
- Select Video Meeting or the studio's custom meeting label.
- Select Update List if an expected meeting has just been added or changed.
- Confirm the meeting subject and start time.
- Select Join Meeting.
- Respond to the browser's microphone and camera choices.
- When finished, leave through the meeting controls and select Close Meeting to close the embedded meeting view.
The current integration uses Jitsi. A qualifying meeting is tied to an eligible schedule for the signed-in account or an active related family member. The studio can protect a meeting with a password or integration token; clients should not need to copy integration credentials.
Warning: Joining can share your display name, microphone, and camera with other participants. Check the selected devices and mute state before entering. Do not share a meeting password, room name, or private join details.
Note: Close Meeting closes your Online Client meeting view. It does not mean that the meeting has ended for everyone else.
#View or download a shared file
- Select Files in the main navigation or account menu.
- Review the Name, Created, Size, and Action columns.
- Select a file or folder name, or select the view icon, to open the available view in a new browser tab.
- Select the download icon when the file has a download action.
- Return to Files to open another item.
The page loads the folder connected to the signed-in account through the studio's external Drive service. It is intended for browsing, viewing, and downloading. No Online Client upload control was found in current DSM Next.
Warning: A downloaded file can contain private family, financial, medical, class, or studio information. Save it only to a trusted device and do not forward its link or contents without permission.
#What happens next
- Opening a message changes that message's unread state for the account.
- Opening the Videos page records the displayed video IDs as seen in that browser for the menu indicator.
- Joining a meeting loads the studio-configured Jitsi service inside the Online Client page.
- Viewing a Drive item opens its supplied external view; downloading saves a copy according to the browser's download settings.
- These actions do not send a message to the studio, upload a file, or enroll a student in a class.
#Confirm it worked
| Task | Confirmation |
|---|---|
| Read a message | The detail window displays the message and its unread marker/count clears or decreases. |
| Watch a video | The assigned player loads and playback controls respond. |
| Join a meeting | The meeting frame loads and shows the meeting controls. |
| Open a file | The file or folder view opens in a new tab. |
| Download a file | The browser reports a completed download in the expected folder. |
#Troubleshooting
#The menu item is missing
Confirm you are signed in to the correct studio and open the account menu as well as the main navigation. The studio may have disabled the feature, changed its label, limited it to eligible accounts, or not completed the required integration.
#A message will not open
Enable JavaScript and refresh the page. If the page reports Unable to load message, record the subject and date and contact the studio without repeatedly opening unrelated messages.
#An expected video is missing
Clear the category filter first. If the video is still absent, ask the studio to check its availability dates and its assignment to the correct class, schedule, category, instructor, or family member. A browser's new-video count does not grant access.
#No video meetings are available
Select Update List and confirm the correct account and class schedule. A meeting appears only when the studio's meeting service is available and the account has a qualifying schedule. If the page says the meeting tools cannot load, check the connection and content-blocking settings before contacting the studio.
#The meeting cannot use the camera or microphone
Open the browser's site permissions for the Online Client and the meeting service. Choose the intended devices, refresh, and join again. Do not change another participant's device or studio meeting settings.
#Files says the folder is empty
The account may not have a folder or shared items yet. Ask the studio to confirm that the folder belongs to the correct account before any files are added or moved.
#Files is visible but does not open
The main menu and account menu do not currently use identical checks for the Drive integration. If Files appears but the page is unavailable, contact the studio; do not treat that result as proof that files were deleted.
#A file opens but cannot be downloaded
Some items can be viewed without a separate download action. Check for a blocked pop-up or download, then ask the studio whether that item is intended to be downloadable.
